What needs to be in place for a digital building model to be useful in projects and operations? Contech #14, held on 29 May 2020, brings together presentations on IFC, digital twins and remote site visits, led by Sindre Gundersen.

IFC and information requirements

Dag Fjeld Edvardsen from Catenda explains how IFC can connect models and other data sources. The BIM requirements example distinguishes between information inside the model, information linked to it and general documentation for management, operation, maintenance and development. Participants discuss shared coordinates, early exchange and testing deliverables.

Øystein Stray from VISCO shows how geometry, scanning, technical diagrams and operational data can be viewed together. Demonstrations from offshore and buildings illustrate navigation between information sources. The hospital example demonstrates possibilities and is not presented as VISCO's delivery to that hospital project.

Site visits and municipal uses

Odd Inge Samuelsen from Samuelsen Maskin discusses live 360-degree video and VR as support for site visits. A worked example illustrates the time cost of travel, while image quality and network coverage are discussed as practical prerequisites. Further trials are described as a possibility.

Mette Jane Holand gives an update on Smart Molde and mobility work around Idrettens hus. The film offers several approaches to the same question: what task should the information help people solve? Software features and development plans are described as they stood in 2020.
