What can building materials merchants contribute when information needs to follow a product throughout the building's life? Frode Ødegård from XL-BYGG Dale Malo uses door deliveries and gutter orders to discuss logistics, product data and customer needs in the context of ISO 19650.

Information must accompany the delivery

A door project shows how difficult it can be to keep requirements, orders and deliveries aligned. Ødegård argues for digital ordering and goods receipt to give owners a better basis for knowing which products a building contains. Identification can connect the product to manufacturing, documentation and later reuse.

Deliver a coherent solution

The gutter illustrates the customer's perspective: the customer needs a working solution, while the merchant understands the parts required. The presentation challenges merchants to combine that knowledge with the right product, place and time, and a continuous flow of information.

The film is a short presentation from 2021 about the desired development of the role and business model. It provides a starting point for a conversation between the client, merchant and software supplier.
