When Construction Met Tech

The recording is in its original language; this article is an English translation.

The same information is entered in several places, documents have to be moved manually and new systems require new training. In When Construction Met Tech, contractors meet IT specialists to examine these time-wasters. Sindre Gundersen leads the conversation, which starts from specific work tasks.

Contractors show where time goes

Bjørnar Gundersen and Odd Inge Samuelsen from Consto describe project startup, design, workforce registration and timesheets. Organisation charts, contact lists and health and safety information have to be created and maintained in several tools. Screenshots and whiteboards make the tasks tangible.

Andreas Andenæs from Christie & Opsahl highlights invoice processing, approval of hours and training in different project collaboration platforms. His presentation is dated 26 March 2021. He shows why solutions need to work for hourly paid employees, site managers and administration alike.

From a problem to a focused improvement

Nivero, Axbit, Autility and Serit contribute from the IT side. The discussion covers data access, interfaces and help with describing needs. Serit shows an approach from strategic analysis and a review of systems to prioritised actions.

A digital challenge bank collects problems and proposed solutions. Towards the end, further contact about Bygg Sammen and a smaller working session with Axbit/Nivero are outlined. These are follow-up points from the meeting; the film does not document subsequent delivery.

Watch the recording to recognise tasks in your own organisation and establish a starting point for dialogue with technology suppliers. A recurring recommendation is to choose a specific problem, involve the people doing the work and examine how existing technology can help.
