Contech #18: Platforms need to talk to each other
Data exists in machines, buildings and municipal systems but is often difficult to use together. Contech #18, held on 27 November 2020, addresses this through practical examples and a discussion between users and technology suppliers.
From machine data to documentation
Odd Inge Samuelsen from Samuelsen Maskin shows how surveyed points and spreadsheets can be combined with coloured terrain surfaces to document compaction. The example shows both the value of machine control data and the processing needed before it becomes useful to others.
Sindre Gundersen, then development director at Angvik Utvikling, places BIM in a wider context. Models, sensors, product data, operations and business systems form part of a proposed structure with different views for owners, tenants, property managers and caretakers.
Interoperability needs purpose, skills and responsibility
Celine Berggreen-Clausen from Smart Innovation Norway contributes in collaboration with Smart Molde. An example from VA SYD in Sweden shows the steps between sensors, networks, databases and services. Alongside infrastructure, she emphasises skills and collaboration.
In the discussion, customers call for easier access to their own data, while developers need specific use cases and funding for integration work. The film provides a starting point for clarifying these needs; the overarching platform diagrams are proposals for further development.
