How design thinking, Scrum, takt and Lean fit into VDC
Design thinking, Scrum, takt and Lean focus on different tasks in a construction project. This presentation shows how these working methods can be used together within VDC, Virtual Design and Construction, starting from customer needs and project objectives.
From needs to planned production
Design thinking is used to explore needs and test simple prototypes. Scrum organises tasks into a prioritised list and short work periods with customer feedback. Takt planning is introduced early to examine how the building will actually be constructed.
The presentation shows the methods as overlapping ways of working. Clarifying needs, design and production planning need to influence one another throughout the process.
Flow through spaces, trades and logistics
Takt is explained through three connections: work within an area, a trade's movement between areas, and logistics linked to time and place. Different planning levels provide different degrees of detail.
Lean is connected to eliminating waste and systematic working habits through 5S. The film gives an overview of how the methods can support each other and serves as an introduction before discussing your own project. The examples show the presenter's use of the methods.
