What does it take for a course to change everyday work on a construction project? In this online retrospective from 17 September 2021, Niklas Modig, Jason Schroeder, Spencer Easton and Felipe Engineer-Manriquez meet with Bjørn Ungersness from Lean Communications as moderator.

Experience of leadership and production flow

The conversation looks back at Norwegian courses and experiences from Germany and Stockholm. The Molde boot camp focused on personal organisation, leadership and stability, while the takt course associated with Oslo went deeper into production planning. The planned in-person teaching in Norway was delivered remotely.

Takt is explained as a shared rhythm for trades moving through rooms and zones. Progress through rooms, the movement of crews and logistics all need to work together. Scrum is discussed as a way of organising design through smaller tasks and frequent feedback.

From teaching to practice

Participants emphasise respect for people, involving those doing the work and using language everyone can understand. Demonstration, guided practice and follow-up in projects are proposed as supplements to courses.

The film is useful for anyone planning skills development and wanting to connect methods to daily practice. Further learning programmes, certification and gatherings are discussed as possibilities; the positive course experiences are the participants' own assessments.
