How do you move from a BIM model to an estimate you can trust? Sindre Gundersen demonstrates cost estimation with 5D BIM in Solibri Model Checker and ISY Calcus. The presentation comes from Contech #12, held on 27 March 2020.

From model quantities to priced items

The demonstration begins by checking the information in the model. A glass wall is visible in 3D, but the expected quantity is missing. Other examples show why gross and net wall areas and the correct units must be clarified before quantities are used in an estimate.

Gundersen retrieves an alternative quantity list in Solibri, processes it in Excel and imports it into ISY Calcus. Selected quantities are then linked to priced items. The model view makes it easier to see which building elements have been priced.

Agree the data requirements before delivery

The video shows both the possibilities and the extra work that arises when model information does not fit the calculation. Manual workarounds need attention during revisions; the advice is therefore to agree quantities, properties and units early and correct errors in the source model. The estimate covers selected building elements and is a demonstration from 2020.
